Camila's Philosophy

I am Brazilian and have called Vancouver home for the past three years. My clinical experience in Brazil, combined with my personal journey as an immigrant, allows me to offer a unique perspective focused on cultural integration. I deeply value the unique aspects of adaptation and navigating life's major transitions.

My approach is rooted in empathy and a profound respect for the individual human experience. I aim to create a safe, collaborative space for the deep exploration of behavioral patterns and how we face emotionally demanding situations. I do this while always honoring your boundaries, your beliefs, and your personal timing.

Why Ama?

The story behind the name.

In Portuguese, "Ama" is a conjugation of the verb "to love". It is also a word in Tupi-Guarani, the language of our indigenous people, meaning rain. I chose this name to beautifully integrate my Brazilian roots with this rainy land I now call home in Canada.

The Depth of Psychoanalysis

A dedicated focus on the unconscious roots of our being.

Clinical Framework

My approach is primarily rooted in psychoanalysis, offering a space to deeply explore what drives our behavioral patterns and emotional expressions. Psychoanalysis is a deep dive into the self; it creates space for exploration and self-discovery, deeply valuing your personal experiences and how you build interpersonal relationships.

The Therapeutic Arc

A path of structured unfolding.

The Beginning

The first sessions focus on building our therapeutic relationship and understanding your goals for this process. We will align all the details to ensure a smooth start, establishing a solid foundation for our collaborative journey.

Intensity

The psychoanalytic process can be intense at times. Rethinking and reframing significant events from childhood and adolescence, or examining family dynamics and harmful behavioral patterns, can bring up a wide range of emotions. Laughing, crying, feeling anger or fear—everything has a space and will be safely held during our sessions.

Accessing the unconscious road

You may notice an increase in dream recall, flashbacks to past (and often repressed) experiences, and the famous 'insights'—those sudden perceptions or solutions that were protected by your unconscious and begin to surface during our sessions or in your daily routine.

Embracing emotions

Psychoanalysis is a journey and, like any path, it has its ups and downs. You might leave some sessions feeling light and invigorated, while others may leave you more reflective or even frustrated by certain discoveries. All of this is a natural part of the journey and can, and should, be explored.

Attention on the details

In psychoanalysis, silence also speaks and serves as a powerful therapeutic tool. Your commitment, your punctuality, and even your occasional desire to quit the process are all integrated into our collaborative work. For the psychoanalyst, nothing goes unnoticed.
